The results of the 2016 Guam Society of America Scholarships were presented at the Annual Liberation Picnic held on Saturday, July 09, 2016 at Pavilion #4, Fort Meade, MD. The winners announced at the picnic are:
$1,500 Brigida Lizama College Student Scholarship – Brooke Mincey
Brooke is a 2015 graduate of Forrest Park High School, Woodbridge, Virginia. At Forest Park High School, she active in Future Business Leaders of America, received an advanced diploma degree, and received the Gold Medal IT Award. She has taken classes at Northern Virginia Community College and plans to attend Blue Ridge Community College pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Guam Society service hours: 25 hrs
Activities: Volunteered and supported the Guam Society events including the 2013 and 2014 Cherry Blossom Coronation Balls, the Annual Guam Society Membership Appreciation night events, the 2015 Guam Society Christmas Party and the annual Roberto LG Lizama Memorial Golf Classic Tournament Fiesta Committee.

$1,000 College Student Scholarship – Tasi Yanger
Tasi is currently enrolled in Kapi’olani Community College and will be transferring to University of Hawaii, Manoa will she will continue her pursuit of a Marketing degree. While at Kapi’olani Community College she worked as an administrative clerk for the Chancellor’s Office and was elected as President of the Community College’s Student Congress. She is a 2015 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Guam.
Activities: Kapi’olani Community College Student Congress, Volunteer for Relay for Life, American Cancer Society, Chamorro Lunar Festival, Saint Dominic’s Senior Care Home, Guam Coastal Clean up, ASPIRE Children’s Tutoring, and performed with Tevakanui Tahitian Dance Company, Natibu Las Vegas (for Jesse Bias and Ruby Santos), and founder of the Polynesian Dance Club at the Academy of Our Lady of Guam.

$1,500 Brigida Lizama High School Student Scholarship – Aubrey Mantanona
Aubrey is a 2016 graduate of Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, Virginia. She plans to attend Norther Virginia Community College and eventually transfer to George Mason University to pursue a degree in Nursing. She works part-time and is certified in CPR and first – aid.
Guam Society service hours: 40 hrs
Activities: Aubrey has been an active member of the Guam Society volunteering at numerous events, including: Chamorro Nights, Memorial Day Picnics, the annual Roberto LG Lizama Memorial Golf Classic Tournament, the 2014 Cherry Blossom Coronation Ball, and numerous Guam Society Liberation Picnics. Aubrey also supported the Guam Society’s annual pilgrimage and novenas for Guam’s Patroness Saint, Our Lady of Camarin.

$1,000 High School Student Scholarship – Rachael DeCaires
Rachael is a 2016 graduate of Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington. She served as an ambassador to interested families and visited middle schools to promote the benefits of attending East Catholic High School, played Varsity Volleyball and Tennis, and plans to attend the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Activities: Volunteer Coach to students ages 5-13 at the Robinswood Tennis Center in Bellevue Washington, became a business owner and head coach for Rachael’s Summer Tennis Camp for students ages 8-12; she worked at Friar’s Den; volunteered and supported the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank, Light My Fire Auction, White Center Food Bank, Hope Link Food Bank, Vacation Bible School, and Walk for Water.

$1,000 High Student Scholarship – Davis Delfin
Davis is a 2016 graduate of Kentridge High School, Kent, Washington. He tutored Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 3 & 4, and Calculus for two years. He was in the top 15% of his graduating class. Davis plans to attend Seattle Pacific University in Washington.
Activities: Distributed Education Club of America (DECA), Kentridge High School Robotics Club, Kentridge High School Soccer, Multi-Cultural Club, Spanish, helping homeless men in the ARISE Program, serving the disabled through Bridge Ministries, and was a part of the 2015 Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church Mission Trip to Tegucigala, Honduras.
