Hafa Adai Guam Society Members, Family and Friends:

Our annual Chamorro Night Event is a just a few weeks away and we are looking forward to a great night for you and all of the attendees.  Details for the event are provided below and can be downloaded at this link:  2014ChamorroNite

DATE: Sunday, October 12, 2014

TIME:  6pm-11pm (we may go longer for those who want to keep the party going)
LOCATION:  Snyder Center, 6450 South Van Dorn Street, Alexandria, VA 22315
ATTIRE:  Island Wear – No flip-flops/zories, shorts or t-shirts please.

This year’s theme is “Puengen Kadu yan Kanta (A Night of Soup & Song)” and the event will be an introspective on the Guam Society and its members.  For the first time, the menu will showcase various Chamorro Soup dishes along with our traditional island cuisine.   Some of our greatest memories on the island include a meal with family and friends over a delicious bowl of island soup – whether it be a beef, chicken, or seafood kadu (soup) dish; it allowed for family and friends to catch up over a great meal.  Our intent this year is to bring you back to some of those fond memories and experiences.
To further the introspective experience, some of the Guam Society members will present a showcase of talents - including music and song, dance presentations, and instrumental performances.  If you’d like to participate in the program and showcase your talent, please contact us at 703.565.4712 or send an email to info@guamsociety.org.

We have a fun event where we select the evening’s Mr. & Ms Chamorro Night 2014 – bring your cha cha dance shoes to participate in the competition – whether you are husband and wife, brother & sister, life-partners, or you just like to tear up the dance floor with a good cha-cha.  Cash prize to the winner of the competition – so bring your best.  The only catch is you have to dance to the song selected for the competition – and that’s when the fun starts.  So, come forward and participate and be a part of a great evening with the Guam Society.  You can coordinate your wardrobe for the evening to really stand out during the competition.  Respond to this email if you’d like to be added to the list of contestants or sign up when you check in for the event.

There will be dancing with music provided by DJ Frank Topasna and of course, our usual repertoire of line dancing.  We’ll have cultural displays and photos will be taken at the event.  Bring your camera and clear your memory on your phones, you’ll want to take photos and videos to share online.

The night will also have the selection/announcement of the 2015 Cherry Blossom Princess and Junior Princess for the Guam Society.  They will represent the Society in the Cherry Blossom Festival and activities during the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.  Come out and support the Princess candidates.  Joining the festivities will be the 2014 Cherry Blossom Princess, Joelle Blas and Junior Princess Mia Cruz.

We will have a 2015 Membership Renewal Drive – renew your membership for 2015 at the event and you’ll be eligible for the membership raffle prize that will be awarded that evening – last year it was a 32″ HDTV.   If you’re not yet a member, pay for 2014 and 2015 – at a minimum, you’ll get a discount on your ticket price and be eligible for the membership raffle.

We will also have the usual 50/50 Raffle and additional Raffle Prizes during the event.   If you’d like to contribute a prize to the raffle, please contact us at info@guamsociety.org or call 703.565.4712.

Volunteer Opportunities:For high school and college students – this is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for next year’s Guam Society Scholarships.   If you’re interested, contact us at info@guamsociety. org /703.565.4712.  We will need help with the beverage station, ticket sales, decoration committee and set up as well as clean up after the event.
