2014 Guam Society Liberation Picnic – Saturday, July 12, 2014

Its that time of year again for our annual Liberation Picnic – this year we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Guam – a milestone year for the Guam Society, Our Island and Our People.
This year we are holding the Guam Society Picnic at the Forest Glen Annex.  Details about the event are provided below and on the attached flyer (Click her for Flyer 2014GSALiberationPicnic).  We are looking forward to a fantastic picnic and to catching up with all of our members, family and friends.   Again:  The picnic will be at the Forest Glen Annex, NOT at the Coast Guard Park.
This year’s Chairperson, Benny Taitague, and the Liberation Picnic Committee has a great day planned for all to enjoy.
When:  Saturday, July 12, 2014; 12-7pm
Where:  Forest Glen Annex – Silver Springs, MD) - For GPS Directions, use the following address:  2460 Linden Lane, Silver Springs, MD  20910* (this is for the Forest Glen Commissary (Park is located next to it)
What:  Pot Luck Event – Bring a Dish/Dessert to share and two 2-liter Soda or Water/ BYOB   (If you are contributing meats to BBQ, please arrive not later than 10 a.m.)
Activities include:
- Meet the 2014 Guam Society Cherry Blossom Princess and Junior Princess & the 2013 Guam Liberation Queen
- Cultural Performances by the Kutturan Chamoru Foundation and dancers from Uno Hit (from the West Coast)
- Music/Entertainment and Dancing
- Contests/Raffles/Vendors
- 2014 Guam Society Scholarship Presentation
- Softball Games (Form teams to play against the Guam Society Softball Team (representing the Guam Society in the annual National Conference of State Societies Softball Championship)
- Moon Bounce for the Kids
- Meet relatives, friends, classmates, and more
- Visits by Guam’s First Lady Christine Calvo (and other Guam VIPs)  and the Honorable Madeleine Z. Bordallo, Guam’s Congresswoman
- Chicken BBQ Contest with prizes for top three finishers
- Corn Hole contest with prize for the 1st Place Team
Bring your picnic party gear! (Tents, chairs, etc.)
For this 70th Anniversary Celebration, a special contest for village tents representing villages fro the Northern, Central and Southern parts of Guam will be held – with cash prizes for the top three tents (1st Prize – $100; 2nd Prize – $75; 3rd Prize – $25)
Come out and celebrate the 70th Anniversary, in recognition of “Generations of Service and Sacrifice – Meggai Na Hinarasion Setbisio yan Sacrifisia” – 1944-2014.
Encourage your family, friends and guests who are not members to become members of the Guam Society of America at the picnic.

Access to the base is easy, but please do RSVP via email to info@guamsociety.org so we can make sure that there is enough food prepared.   Look for signs
for the parking areas and come early to set up.

From 495 Beltway, take Georgia Avenue Exit – South, turn right on Seminary Lane (the name then changes to Linden Lane); turn left on Brookville Road; then right on Stephen Sitter Avenue; stop at security check point, then proceed about ½ mile to top of hill, softball field and pavilions on left side, look for parking signs. Forest Glen Annex is about 5 minutes off the Beltway.
