Former GSA President’s Son Changes Command

Congratulations to Lieutenant Commander Matthew Salas, son of former GSA President and current member, Juan T. Salas and his wife, May Sanchez Salas of Dale City, Virginia as he changes command of the US Coast Guard Cutter Sequoia at 5:00 PM on Thurs, July 28, 2011 on Guam at Victor Wharf Three, US Naval Activities Guam, Apra Harbor, Guam.

Lt Cdr Salas is a 1996 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.  He holds a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from the USCG Academy and an MS in Business Administration from Touro University International, Cypress, California.  He has served in various assignments and vessels with the U.S. Coast Guard, including:  USCGC Legare (Portsmouth, VA), USCGC Sassafras and USCGC Walnut (Honolulu, HI), Pacific Area and 11th District Office of Aids to Navigation (Alameda, CA), and USCGC Kukui (Honolulu, HI).  His awards include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals and two Commandant’s Letter of Commendations.

Congratulations again to Lt Cdr Salas and his family, as well as to his proud parents Juan and May Salas.
